Winner Contacts Michigan Lottery

Michigan Lottery PowerballThe Michigan Lottery said Wednesday morning that it has been contacted by the winner of the August 15 $337 million Powerball jackpot.

Details about the winner will not be released until the prize, the third largest in Powerball history, is claimed. No date has been scheduled yet; the winner has one year from the drawing to claim.

The $337 million is the second Powerball jackpot ticket won in Michigan. The first winning ticket, worth $128.6 million, was claimed by Team Victory of southeast Michigan on November 12, 2010.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.

Powerball makes another millionaire in Michigan!

One player matched five numbers in Saturday’s drawing to win $1 million! The winning numbers were 14-26-41-55-59 and the Powerball 01. The lucky ticket was sold at Hiller’s Market #5 at 15455 Haggerty Rd., in Plymouth on August 18.

Powerball has paid out almost $340 million to Michigan winners in the two drawing since August 15!

Alpena player wins Fantasy 5 for his kids!

Fantasy 5The retired man from Alpena has been playing the Lottery since it began in 1972. His biggest win during that time was $2,700, he wished it could be more.

Well, on July 21 he got his wish! The lucky player, who wants to remain anonymous, won the Fantasy 5 drawing for $105,000!

The player plans to share some of his windfall with his two grown children. As for the rest of it, he plans on saving it…unless his kids need a little more help in the future.

The winning ticket was sold at Alpena E-Z Mart located at 1035 W. Chisholm St. in Alpena.
