Detroit man is latest Powerball millionaire!

Michigan Lottery PowerballLonnie Griffin, an electrician’s apprentice from Detroit, walked into a store to check on the Daily 4 number. He ended up speechless when he saw that he had matched the five white ball numbers in the August 8, Powerball drawing!

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I got the numbers on a piece of paper and went out to my car to check them again.” The lucky winner tried to contact his mother and sister, but could only reach his step-father, so he shared the good news. However, Griffin was mistaken about his win. He believed he had won $100,000, until family members called him back to tell him the prize was $1,000,000!

“He was so calm when we told him he had won $1,000,000 that I asked him what was wrong,” said his sister.

Griffin plans to invest most of the money, but will also pay off some debts and take a trip with his girlfriend.

The winning ticket was sold at 7-Eleven #29008 at 8834 Telegraph Rd. in Redford.

Waitress wins Fantasy 5 for $200,180!

Fantasy 5A 45-year old waitress from Owosso has decided to take a week off work. She can afford to; she won the Fantasy 5 drawing on August 6 for $200,180

The mother of four and her husband, who wish to remain anonymous, now have the opportunity to do something they have dreamed of for the past seven years. “Seven years ago we lost our house to foreclosure,” said the winner’s husband. “We moved into the place we live now because it was convenient, but we really want a house again,” said the lucky winner.

The player discovered she had won when her husband checked the numbers on his phone, and then held the phone and the ticket to her face and shouted “Look at this!” His next words to his winning wife were “Sign the ticket!”

“But I couldn’t sign the ticket,” she says, “because by then I was crying with happiness.”

Player picks new game and wins $3,346,342!

Classic Lotto 47The 64-year old player from Plymouth said that Keno! is his favorite game. However, on July 28 when he went to play the Lottery, he told the clerk, “Just give me whatever is being drawn tonight.” Since it was Saturday, Powerball and Classic Lotto 47 would be drawn. The player bought a Classic Lotto 47 ticket for $1.

The next day, friends told the player, who wishes to remain anonymous, that the place where he bought his ticket had a winner. He got a Sunday paper so he could see the numbers for himself, and discovered that he was the lucky winner of $3,346,342

When the winner told his girlfriend that he had won, she was sure it wasn’t true so she went to check the numbers on the computer. He also told some friends he had won, but they didn’t believe him either. “I’m kind of a jokester,” he said. “I’ve told people before that I won when I didn’t. Now they don’t believe me, but they will,” he said with a laugh.

The lucky player wants to use some of his winnings to give gifts to his siblings. Although, he doesn’t plan to buy a new house or car, he intends to take his friends out for a nice dinner and try to convince them that he is now a millionaire!

When asked by Lottery staff how he felt about winning more than $3 million, the player replied, “I’m a pretty low maintenance guy, so it’s a little surreal, especially since I only spent $1.”

The winning ticket was sold at Schulz’ Cap N’ Cork at 40644 Five Mile Rd. in Plymouth.
