A St. Clair County man thought there was an issue with his ticket until he realized he’d won a $166,841 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

David Wigle, of East China, matched the winning Fantasy 5 numbers on Sept. 17 – 23-24-26-30-37 – to win the big prize. He bought his winning ticket at Corner Grocery, located at 339 Fairbanks Street in Marine City. Marine City is about 25 miles east of Macomb.

“I have been playing the Lottery for a long time and I play Fantasy 5 all the time,” said Wigle. “I took my ticket to the store to check it the morning after the drawing and a ‘file a claim’ message popped up when I scanned it. I handed my ticket to the cashier and asked her to check it because I thought there was an issue with it.

“While she had my ticket, she got a call from the store owner telling her they had sold a jackpot winning Fantasy 5 ticket. We looked up the winning numbers and realized that I was the big winner!”

Wigle, 72, recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. With his winnings he plans to purchase a new truck and then save the remainder.

“Winning a Fantasy 5 jackpot prize still hasn’t sunk in, and I don’t think it will until I have the money in the bank,” said Wigle.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
