The player was happy when he called Lottery personnel to make an appointment to come in and get his Lottery winnings. “I think I won $100,000,” he said.
However, he was wrong. The lucky player had actually won $262,218 playing Fantasy 5! When told by Lottery personnel that his winnings totaled more than a quarter of a million dollars, the player whooped for joy, and then asked for the amount to be repeated twice, not quite believing his good fortune.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that the big win won’t change his lifestyle. He intends to pay off some debts, help his kids, purchase a riding lawnmower and “do a little more fishing.”
The winning ticket was sold at Westown Shell Food Mart located at 1119 W. Main St. in Owosso.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
