The winner saw a Lottery sign as he was passing the gas station next to where he worked. He couldn’t believe it. Those were his numbers. He didn’t tell a soul about his good fortune, but he had just won Fantasy 5 for $324,105!
The lucky player, who wishes to remain anonymous, had been dreaming of a way to see his family. This player, who worked with the U.S. Army in Iraq, met and married his wife overseas and hasn’t had the funds to go and visit her and their two children, or to bring them to the United States.
“Now I can buy a house and bring my family home,” he stated with a laugh. “I feel like a king!”
The player won the Fantasy 5 drawing on April 18, 2012. The jackpot starts at $100,000 and grows by $5,000 every day that there is not a winner.
The winning ticket was sold at Express 100 Inc. located at 9600 Livernois Ave. in Detroit.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
