It took an hour and a half for Abe Jones to travel from his home in Taylor to Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim Lottery prize. But it was worth it. Jones was one of nine lucky Michigan Lottery players to match 5 white balls numbers in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, giving him a $250,000 cash prize.
Jones told Michigan Lottery staff the numbers 1-4-6-11-14 are his “lucky” numbers so he doesn’t buy easy picks. That decision turned out to be a one that paid him $250,000!
Jones held one of Michigan’s nine match five tickets. He purchased it at Sam’s Yum Yum Donuts Inc. located at 8284 Telegraph Rd. in Taylor. Another $250,000 prize winning ticket, sold at Smoker’s Express located at 45156 Ford Rd. in Canton, was claimed on March 21 by William Bobbish of Canton.
The other seven $250,000 winning Mega Millions tickets were sold at:
- Meijer store #54 located at 20401 Haggerty Rd. in Northville (5 sold)
- Eagle Express Liquor & Deli located at 9576 Highland Rd. in Howell
- Fenton Party Store located at 502 W. Silver Lake Rd. in Fenton
The owners of all the winning tickets must contact the Lottery’s Public Relations Division at 517-373-1237 to make an appointment to claim their prizes.
Michigan’s nine match five winners were among 68 sold across the country in Tuesday night’s drawing.
Mega Millions fever is expected to continue as Friday’s jackpot has jumped to $290 million, since the top prize was not won in Tuesday’s drawing. Friday’s cash option is $205 million for a single winner who takes the prize in a lump sum rather than 26 annual installments.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
