Player claims big prize

LANSING, March 1, 2007 – A very lucky Kenockee man claimed his $10,000 prize after matching four white balls, plus the Mega ball in the Feb. 20 Mega Millions drawing.

Scott Metzer, who has been playing the Lottery for 19 years, said he hid the ticket in a safe deposit box until he claimed it at the Lottery office in Sterling Heights.

He plans to use the prize money to pay bills and enjoys gardening and hunting in his spare time.

The easy pick ticket was purchased at Troy Cheese and Wine, 2558 W. Maple Rd., in Troy.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.  Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
