Hundreds claim Millionaire Raffle prizes 2007 starts off with a bang for Lottery players!

LANSING, January 5, 2007 – Just two days after the Michigan Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle drawing, hundreds of lucky winners from all over the state have claimed prizes.

As of this afternoon, two of five $1 million prizes and six of 10 $100,000 prizes, as well as over 200 of the 750 $1,000 prizes, have been claimed!

The first $1 million prize was claimed on Thursday by Janet and Manuel Cavazos of Brownstown Township.  The couple told Lottery officials ?everything has been a blur” since they learned of their good fortune.  The winners plan to use their prize money on investments, paying bills, helping their children and a taking a trip to Hawaii.

The lucky winning ticket was purchased at Farmer Jack #724, 23849 West Rd. in Brownstown Twp.

A second $1 million prize was claimed today by an anonymous man who purchased his lucky ticket at 7-Eleven 110H, 2900 Airport Rd. in Jackson.

The six $100,000 prizes were claimed by the following:

Dale Hosler of Chase purchased his ticket at Northend Grocery in Reed City.  Hosler, who is an avid Lottery player, said he took his ticket to a local store where the clerk scanned it and told him it was a winner, but he did not know the prize amount.  He had no idea until later that day that he had won $100,000!

Hosler kept his winning ticket in an envelope until cashing it in at the Lottery office in Lansing.  He has no immediate plans for the prize money.

Brad King of Lansing purchased his ticket at Spagnuolo’s Party Store in Bath. King, who purchased five tickets for the drawing, said he’s been playing the Lottery since he turned 18 and was thrilled to win.

?It is a dream come true!”  He plans to save the money and use some of it to pay bills.

The six remaining claimants chose to remain anonymous.  They purchased their tickets from the following locations: Southtown Market in Grand Haven; LaLondes Foods in Midland; Kmart in Sterling Heights; and Jerry’s Party Store in Westland.

There are still three $1 million prizes; four $100,000 second-tier prizes; and hundreds of $1,000 prizes yet to be claimed.  Winners have one year from the draw date, which was January 3, to claim prizes.

The Millionaire Raffle was the Michigan Lottery’s first-ever raffle game.  A limited number of tickets, only 500,000, were sold at all Lottery terminals across Michigan beginning November 12, 2006.  Each ticket sold contained a unique six-digit number from 000001 to 500000.  In the single drawing on January 3, 765 raffle tickets were randomly selected to win the following great prizes:

  • 5 grand prizes of $1,000,000 each (annuitized over 20 years or lump sum)
  • 10 prizes of $100,000 each
  • 750 prizes of $1,000 each

The Millionaire Raffle offered players the best chance ever to win $1,000,000 with just odds of just 1 in 100,000 to be a top prize winner.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
