LANSING, November 8, 2002 – Susan Bodman of Jackson turned 99 cents worth of spare change into a $6,633 prize while playing the Michigan Lottery’s new Change Play game.
Bodman, 53, purchased the winning ticket at Amanatis, 212 N. Milwaukee St., in Jackson.
"I visited the Michigan Lottery’s Web site (www.michigan.gov/lottery) to look up the winning numbers," explained Bodman. " I couldn’t believe the numbers on my ticket matched the winning numbers on the screen. I started crying and screaming with shock and excitement!"
The lucky lady said she hid the winning ticket in the family Bible prior to turning it in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing. Bodman, who enjoys crocheting in her free time, said she does not yet have any special plans for her winnings.
The first Change Play drawing took place on Monday, October 14, 2002 and drawings are held every night just after 9:00 p.m. Change Play allows players to use loose change from any purchase to buy a chance to win thousands of dollars with six guaranteed winners each day. The six winning tickets are randomly selected in a computerized drawing that picks from all the unique wagers placed that day. The six winners share the prize money from that day’s drawing, and their individual winnings are proportional to the amount they wagered on the winning ticket.
