LANSING, August 27, 2002 – Tammy Goodroe of Sterling was shocked to discover she possessed a prize-winning Michigan Lottery Mega Millions ticket! She could hardly believe her eyes when she saw she had matched the first five numbers in the August 20 Mega Millions drawing to win a $175,000 prize. That day’s winning numbers were: 2, 13, 20, 23, 43 and the Gold Mega Ball number was 6.

"I picked up a winning number report from a local store so I could check the numbers on my ticket," Goodroe said. "When I saw I had matched five numbers I asked the clerk to run the ticket through the Lottery machine to be sure it was a winner. The clerk said, ‘You have to go to Lansing to collect on this one!’ I have been carrying the ticket around in my purse for days and had no idea it was a winner! When I got home I asked my husband, Bill, ‘What would you do with $175,000?’ and he said ‘I would jump up and down!’ We are both very excited about winning!"

The 36-year-old winner, who works as a produce manager at Pinny Food Center, purchased the winning Mega Millions ticket at Forward #115 Sterling, 600 N. Saginaw, in Sterling. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the lucky lady said she kept it locked in a safe.

She said she plans to use part of her winnings to pay bills, buy a new vehicle and take her family on a trip to Disney World. She added that she plans to share the remainder with her five children.

The last Big Game drawing took place on Tuesday, May 14, 2002. On Wednesday, May 15, 2002, The Big Game was replaced by Mega Millions. Mega Millions is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 7,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

Mega Millions drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Mega Millions drawing is tonight (Tuesday) August 27, with an estimated jackpot of $105 million.
