LANSING, August 27, 2002 — The dollars are rolling in for Michigan Lottery players who
continue to win big with the Lottery’s Michigan Rolldown game! There were four lucky winners in the August 6 Michigan Rolldown drawing who split the jackpot. Three of the winners — from Addison, Coloma and Warren — have claimed their prizes. The other ticket holder has yet to claim his or her prize. The winning numbers for that drawing were: 2, 12, 17, 18 and 19.
The total jackpot prize pool for the August 6 drawing was $15,688, so each jackpot winner received $3,922, before taxes. In total for the
August 6 Rolldown drawing, there were 18,732 winners who shared $55,877 in prizes. In addition to the four jackpot winners, there were 116 winners who matched four numbers for a prize of $55; 2,171 winners who matched three numbers for a prize of $8; and 16,441 winners who matched two numbers for the $1 prize.
L.E. Lathrop, 71, of Addison, said he learned he had won a share of the jackpot when a friend looked at his ticket and told him he had matched all five numbers.
"I immediately said ‘You have got to be kidding!’" Lathrop said. "I still can’t believe that I won part of the jackpot prize."
The lucky man purchased the winning ticket at Country Market #66, 11301 Brooklyn Road, in Brooklyn. Lathrop, who enjoys golfing and fishing in his free time, said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills.
Jodi Borah, 41, of Coloma, also won a share of the August 6 Michigan Rolldown jackpot.
She said she was in "total disbelief" upon learning she had a winning ticket. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at the Lottery’s regional office in Wyoming, Borah said she hid in under a television to ensure its safety.
The winner purchased the winning Michigan Rolldown ticket at Vitale’s Market, 6402 M-63 North, in Coloma. Borah said she chose her own winning number combination, using the numbers that appeared on two Michigan Rolldown tickets that she had purchased for a different drawing. The lucky lady said she plans to use her winnings to pay bills.
Leonard Jankowski, 76, of Warren, said he learned he had won a share of the jackpot while watching the Michigan Rolldown drawing on television. Jankowski said he was "very happy" to learn he had won a share of the jackpot prize!
The lucky man purchased the winning ticket at Vegas Foods, 30800 Hoover Road, in Warren. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at the Lottery’s regional office in Sterling Heights, the winner said he kept it in his wallet at all times to ensure its safety. Jankowski, who enjoys traveling in his free time, said he does not yet have any special plans for his winnings.
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held Monday, February 28, 2000. Drawings are conducted six days a week — Monday through Saturday — at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at the more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
