LANSING, January 8, 1999 – A Detroit man really cashed in when he won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 70-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers – 4, 14, 19, 20 and 28 – in the December 11, 1998 drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at King Saver Food, 2645 W. Davison, in Detroit.
"I saw the drawing results on Channel 7," he said. "My wife was sitting there with me and I said to her ‘Do you see what I see?’" I wrote the numbers down and confirmed them against the numbers in the paper the next day. I think my wife was more excited about winning than I was!"
The Detroit man said he doesn’t have any special plans for his winnings at this time. He did make one very special celebratory purchase for his wife shortly after learning he had won though.
"Since I knew I had won, I bought my wife a new wedding ring," he said.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 prize are one in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
