Everyone wins with Mega jackpot

Michigan Lottery Mega MillionsThe thousands of Michigan Lottery players who had winning tickets were not the only winners in the March 30 historic Mega Millions drawing.

Lottery officials report that sales for the drawing were approximately $25.9 million, resulting in a net contribution to the School Aid Fund of approximately $10.6 million. The sales broke the Lottery’s previous drawing sales record of $24.7 million, which was for a 2000 Big Game jackpot of $363 million. Michigan’s Larry Ross was one of two winners who shared that jackpot.

In addition, the Lottery’s 10,000-plus retailers earned approximately $1.5 million in sales commissions for the Friday drawing.

Previous to March 30, the last Mega Millions jackpot was won on January 24, 2012. Since then, in the run up to the historic jackpot, the Lottery sold $65.1 million in Mega Millions tickets and recorded profits of $26.7 million.

The Mega Millions run lifted interest in all Lottery games, resulting in record sales for the week ending April 3. Unaudited figures show $81 million in total sales, highlighted by both Mega Millions sales and instant game sales, which were over $19 million. The previous record week, ending May 8, 2000, had sales of $62.9 million total.

Over 636,000 Michigan Lottery players won over $4.5 million in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, with prizes ranging from $250,000 (six winners) to $2 (332,299 winners.)

The jackpot for the March 30 drawing was finalized at $656 million, which was a world record. Winning tickets for the jackpot were sold in Kansas, Maryland and Illinois.

Learn from your “mistakes” and you could join this winner!

Mega MillionsDarnell Adams of Detroit claimed $250,000 when he matched five white ball numbers for the Mega Millions drawing on March 30.

Adams was driving home after purchasing his Mega Millions ticket when he realized he still had a completed bet slip he had not played. He was feeling sleepy while driving, so he decided to stop and play his bet slip while trying to shake the fatigue to continue the drive home. “I made a mistake and didn’t realize I had filled out two bet slips with the same numbers. So when I stopped to play my last bet slip, it had the same numbers as one I already played,” Adams said.

Once he realized what he had done, Adams was a little disturbed he purchased two tickets with the same numbers. But when he checked the winning numbers, he was less disturbed, and more grateful! Adams realized he won $250,000 twice!

Adams purchased one winning ticket at Speedway #8708 located at 2799 Plymouth Rd. in Ann Arbor.  The other winning ticket was purchased at Sunny Oil Inc. located at 3031 Washtenaw Ave. in Dearborn.

The Mega Millions jackpot skyrocketed to a massive $656 million once all sales closed on Friday, March 30 at 10:45 p.m.  Once the dust settled, Adams claimed two of the six Michigan tickets to match 5 white balls to win $250,000 in the historic Mega Millions drawing.  In fact, 636,136 Michigan players won a combined total of $4,573,224!

$250,000 in Mega blessings!

Mega Millions“I’m purchasing new pews for the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Howell.  That’s the first order of business for my winnings!”

That was the first thing active parishioner and newly minted Mega Millions winner Paul Turner told Michigan Lottery staffers.  “I’ve been contributing $10 a month for years to try and get those pews purchased.  Now that I’ve won $250,000 I can fulfill my pledge all at once!” Turner said.

Turner purchased his winning ticket at Woodland Party Store Too located at 8064 Grand River Rd. in Brighton.  Easy picks are all that Turner plays now.  He used to play his children’s birthdays and other special numbers for years the numbers failed to pay off.

The Mega Millions jackpot skyrocketed to a massive $656 million once all sales closed on Friday, March 30 at 10:45 p.m.  Once the dust settled, Turner was one of six Michigan players to match 5 white balls to win $250,000 in the historic Mega Millions drawing.  In fact, 636,136 Michigan players won a combined total of $4,573,224!
