$670 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Up for Grabs on Friday the 13th; A Historically Lucky Day for Michigan Lottery Mega Millions Players

There is a huge $670 million Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs Friday, and a Michigander could become the fifth Michigan Lottery player to win the game’s jackpot on what some consider to be the unluckiest of days.

The Mega Millions game has been particularly lucky for lottery players in Michigan on Friday the 13th, with four lucky players winning the game’s jackpot on what many consider to be a cursed day. Those four jackpots totaled $171 million in winnings.

  • June 13, 2008 – $57 million jackpot, won by a Kent City man
  • May 13, 2011 – $27 million jackpot, won by a Kalamazoo man
  • June 13, 2014 – $66 million jackpot, won by a Port Huron woman
  • Oct. 13, 2017 – $21 million jackpot, won by a Waterford man

“Four lucky Michigan Lottery players have won Mega Millions jackpots on Friday the 13th, making it a historically lucky day for our players, and especially exciting with a $670 million jackpot up for grabs!” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “We hope to see the lucky streak continue with a Michigan player winning the eighth largest Mega Millions jackpot in history this Friday and making a fifth Friday the 13th Mega Millions jackpot win in Michigan!”

Michigan Lottery players will have a shot at a huge jackpot on this historically lucky day. The Mega Millions jackpot has been climbing for several weeks, now giving players a shot at $670 million on Friday the 13th. The cash option for the jackpot is $317.8 million.

If a player wins the jackpot, it would be the fourth Mega Millions jackpot won this year, and the eighth largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won. Friday’s drawing will be the 27th drawing since the jackpot was last won in September, when one ticket purchased in Texas won the $810 million jackpot.

Since the Mega Millions jackpot run began Sept. 13, Michigan Lottery players have won more than $4.2 million in prizes, including two $1 million prizes.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in Michigan in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club. The club won a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot. That jackpot was the largest ever won in Michigan.

Lottery retailers throughout the state are selling Mega Millions tickets until 10:45 p.m. Friday. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Mega Millions drawings take place each Tuesday and Friday evening. Each Mega Millions play is only $2. For an additional $1 per play, players have the opportunity to add a “Megaplier” that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times. Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
