Mega Millions Jackpot Jumps to Record $1.58 Billion for Tonight’s Drawing

Mega MillionsThe Mega Millions jackpot has jumped to $1.58 billion for tonight’s drawing. The cash option for the drawing has increased to about $783 million.

If a player wins tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot, it would be the largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won. The current record for the largest jackpot won in Mega Millions history was set in October 2018 by a South Carolina player who won $1.537 billion. The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in April, when one ticket purchased in New York matched the five white balls and Mega ball to win a $20 million jackpot.

Tonight’s drawing will be the 32nd drawing since the jackpot was last won. In those drawings, more than 36.6 million tickets have won prizes across all nine prize tiers. Two lucky Michigan players have won prizes of $1 million or more during the current Mega Millions jackpot run. On July 21, a player won $1 million with a ticket bought at Hunter and Wayne Liquor, located at 35201 Hunter Street in Westland. Westland is about 25 miles west of Detroit. On Aug. 4, a lucky player won a $2 million prize with a ticket bought online at MichiganLottery.com.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in Michigan in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club. The club won a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot. That jackpot was the largest ever won in Michigan and the eighth largest in U.S. lottery history.

Lottery retailers throughout the state are selling Mega Millions tickets until 10:45 p.m. tonight. Tickets also may be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.

Mega Millions drawings take place each Tuesday and Friday evening. Each Mega Millions play is only $2. For an additional $1 per play, players have the opportunity to add a “Megaplier” that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.
