A Muskegon County man couldn’t believe his eyes when he won a $500,000 top prize playing the Michigan Lottery’s Luxury Cashword instant game.
The 38-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket at Holton Foods, located at 8764 Holton Duck Lake Road in Holton. Holton is about 15 miles northeast of Muskegon.
“Me and my wife were grocery shopping and I bought two Luxury Cashword tickets while we were at the store,” said the player. “I scratched the tickets when we got home and when I saw I’d won $500,000, I didn’t get too excited because I didn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I had my wife look the ticket over and she confirmed what I was seeing, so we had my mom and one of my friends come over to look at it. After they looked the ticket over and confirmed the prize, it started sinking in that we had really won. Winning is such a blessing!”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to complete some home repairs and invest.
Players have won more than $7 million playing Luxury Cashword which launched in March. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $500,000. More than $53 million in prizes remain, including two $500,000 top prizes and 46 $1,000 prizes.
In 2022, Lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at any of the 10,500 retailers across the state.
