A Genesee County man left a Speedway gas station with a $1 million prize and a gas pump hanging out of his car after he won big playing the Michigan Lottery’s Winning Millions instant game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at the Speedway, located at 3340 Owen Road in Fenton.
“Winning Millions has been my favorite Lottery game since it came out,” said the player. “I stopped at Speedway to get gas and decided to get a ticket while I was there. I started scratching the ticket while my gas was pumping. When I saw I’d matched the number 14 and then revealed the $1 million amount underneath, I started yelling: ‘Are you kidding me?!’
“I was so excited, I forgot I was filling up with gas and drove away with the gas pump still in my car,” said the player.
The 59-year-old player visited Lottery headquarters to claim his big prize. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,517 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, he plans to buy a home, a new car, and go on vacation.
“I have been playing since the Lottery began and finally won big,” the player said. “Winning a $1 million prize is life-changing.”
Players have won more than $38 million playing Winning Millions, which launched in December 2020. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $10 million in prizes remain, including one $20,000 prizes and 24 $1,000 prizes.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 10,500 retailers across the state.
In 2020, Lottery players won more than $1.5 billion playing instant games.
