A Detroit man is looking forward to a fresh start after winning $100,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Hot Fortune instant game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at Beebe’s Market, located at 7250 West Lafayette Avenue in Detroit.
“I stopped in to buy some Lottery tickets, and saw one Hot Fortune ticket sitting by itself behind the counter so I bought it,” said the player. “I took it home and set it aside and scratched it later that night.
“When I got around to scratching it off and saw that I’d won $100,000, I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance!”
The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to buy a new vehicle and share the rest with his family.
“The last couple years have been really tough, it’s been a struggle. Winning this feels real good and will help me catch up on my bills and start fresh,” the player said.
Players have won more than $51 million playing Hot Fortune, which launched in October 2016. Each $20 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $20 up to $2 million. More than $47 million in prizes remain, including two $2 million top prizes, two $100,000 prizes, 16 $5,000 prizes, and 303 $1,000 prizes.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.
In 2016, Lottery players won nearly $817 million playing instant games.
