A growing jackpot prompted a Newaygo County woman to purchase a Powerball ticket and start dreaming.
Kathleen Pogodzinski, of Hesperia, matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball drawn on Aug. 5 – 11-21-28-33-45 Pwerball: 11 – to win A $100,000 Powerball prize. Pogodzinski bought her winning ticket at Woody’s Bar, located at 8773 Goldenrod Avenue in Bitely. Hesperia is about 60 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.
“I was eating dinner at Woody’s when I noticed the Powerball jackpot was quite high,” said Pogodzinski. “I bought a ticket, stuck it in my purse and forgot about it for a couple of days.
“I was at the store a few days after the drawing, and I checked my ticket. When I saw I had matched four numbers, I thought I was seeing things wrong, so I asked the clerk to look over the winning numbers printout with me. That’s when it started sinking in that I had won big!”
Pogodzinski visited Lottery headquarters on Tuesday to claim her big prize. With her winnings, she plans to help her children and save for retirement.
