A Macomb County man had an Easter Sunday he’ll never forget after learning he won $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s $500 Grand Cashword instant game.
Riadh Qaisar, of Sterling Heights, was on his way to visit a relative in the hospital when he stopped at the Shell gas station, located at 1849 East 11 Mile Road in Madison Heights and bought a $500 Grand Cashword instant game ticket.
After scratching the ticket, Qaisar thought he had won $1,000. It wasn’t until the next day – Easter Sunday – when his family looked at the ticket that he found he had actually won $500,000.
Qaisar, 23, and several of his family members visited Lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to help his parents buy a new home and take care of his younger siblings.
Players have won more than $4.2 million playing $500 Grand Cashword, which launched in January. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $500,000. More than $27 million in prizes remain, including one $500,000 top prize, and 25 $1,000 prizes.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.
