A 78-year-old Lake City woman is looking forward to getting a new dishwasher after winning $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Powerball game.
Charlotte May Willis won the $1 million prize by matching the five white balls drawn in the Jan. 13 Powerball drawing: 04-08-19-27-34. She bought the winning ticket at the Admiral gas station, located at 805 South Mitchell Street in Cadillac.
Willis learned she was a $1 million winner after her grandson checked the numbers for her online at MichiganLottery.com.
Willis visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing on Tuesday to claim her big prize. She said that winning $1 million “didn’t seem real” until she had her picture taken while holding a big check.
In addition to purchasing a new dishwasher with her winnings, Willis plans to pay off her bills and complete some home improvement projects.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to five times may be added to any Powerball play for only $1.
The Powerball drawings take place at 10:59 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerballlive.com/powerball. Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
