Ruth Dunning has loved to play Mega Millions since her mother’s neighbor won a Mega jackpot worth $363 million a few years ago. Dunning didn’t hit the jackpot, but luck was on her side when she matched five white ball numbers to win $250,000 in the January 24 drawing.
When asked about any special plans for her new fortune she very happily stated, “I will be able to set up a college fund for my two children, and we will be taking a family vacation!”
The winning easy-pick ticket was sold by Hiller’s Market #6 located at 39950 W. 14 Mile Rd. in Commerce Township.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2011, the contribution to schools was over $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed over $16 billion to education in Michigan.
