Each night this loyal Michigan Lottery player starts a fire in his fireplace, sits down in his recliner alongside his dog Duchess, enjoys a glass of wine and has the same thoughts; “Lord, please let me win the lottery so that I can pay off my bills and enjoy my retirement with Duchess.”
On February 14 this player’s dreams came true when he claimed his half of a $332,040 Fantasy 5 jackpot.
After finding out he’d won $166,020, the lucky Gwinn resident, who remained anonymous, then had to make a 400-mile trip to Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim his prize. The trip took him approximately seven hours, but according to this winner, it was well worth it!
The other half of the jackpot was won by a player from Linden. Numbers for the February 14 drawing were 03-16-23-34-37.
The winning tickets were sold at Speedway #8753, located at 1466 E. Bristol Rd. in Burton and at Larry’s Family Foods, located at 120 E. State Highway M35 in Gwinn.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $16 billion to education in Michigan.
