$2 million reasons to love Raffle of Riches!

One $20 ticket was all a Monroe Lottery player needed to win the $2 million grand prize in the 2011 Raffle of Riches game!

“I bought the ticket on February 14th as a Valentine’s Day bonus, thinking that it would be nice to win.  When the local news reported the winning raffle ticket was purchased at the Monroe Meijer, my family asked me if I had checked the numbers, since that is where I bought my ticket.  At the time, I had not checked it.  Later that day, I checked the number on my ticket and couldn’t believe my eyes, that I was holding the grand prize winner!”

This new millionaire, who chose to remain anonymous, plans to pay off bills and eventually retire early.

The winning Raffle of Riches ticket was purchased at Meijer Store #67, located at 1700 N. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe.  On all, the Raffle of Riches had over 14,000 winners with prizes totaling $7.3 million.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was $727.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $16 billion to education in Michigan.
