LANSING , June 7, 2011 – Gary Keel, a regular Michigan Lottery player from Freeland, won $240,529 after purchasing a few extra Fantasy 5 draws for the June 4 drawing.
Keel checked the computer later that evening and realized he won, but didn’t know exactly how much until he checked the Lottery’s Web site again the next morning.
The Freeland man plans to pay off bills and give some of the money to each of his three children. He’ll also enjoy his summer traveling and camping with his wife, as well as spending some time with his six grandchildren.
The winning ticket was purchased at Pats Food Center, 7620 Midland Rd., in Freeland.
Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was $701.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
