Lottery honors Michigan military

LANSING, October 11, 2010 – The Michigan Lottery is honoring Michigan Armed Forces members with its newest instant ticket, Michigan Heroes™.

The $2 ticket, which is on sale now, features photos of military men and women from Michigan who have served in the Armed Forces dating from WWII to the present The game offers prizes ranging from $2 to $25,000.

In 2009, members Player City, formally the Lottery’s VIP club, were asked to submit an image of themselves, a family member or friend, who currently serves or has served in the U.S. military. From 270 entries received, the Lottery selected 10 heroes to be featured on a Michigan Heroes™ instant ticket.

Military members featured on the ticket include Specialist Bobbie Caviness, Jr.; Master Sergeant David Wolfe; Private Barbara Pomponio; Private First Class Jonathon Poole; Lance Corporal Dickie Prince, Jr.; Staff Sergeant Lani Yearicks; Staff Sergeant James Allen; Corporal Russell Schanck; Specialist Nathan Lentz and Petty Officer Chandar Badger.

“The Lottery is proud to be offering the Michigan Heroes™ instant ticket to honor not only the 10 individuals featured on the ticket, but all servicemen and women from Michigan,” said Lottery Commissioner M. Scott Bowen.

Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was nearly $700 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
