Mega jackpot jumps to $144 million

With no jackpot winning tickets sold in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, the jackpot has increased to $144 million!

If a player wins Friday night’s $144 million Mega Millions jackpot and chooses the annuity payment option, he or she will receive $5,538,461.54 million per year for 26 years, less taxes! That breaks down to $461,538.46 per month; $106,508.88 per week; or $15,173.87 per day!

If a winner prefers the prize in one payment, the estimated lump sum cash value of the jackpot is $89.5 million, less taxes.

Additionally, an agreement between the 12 Mega Millions states and the Multi-State Lottery Association means the Michigan Lottery will begin selling Powerball tickets on January 31. Powerball tickets can be purchased starting Sunday at all of the nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers who now sell Mega Millions tickets.

If you would like to arrange an interview with a Lottery official to talk about the Mega Millions jackpot and the Powerball launch, please call (517)335-5642, or email stahlam@michigan.gov.

Over 98.5 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers.
