Alto man claims $250,002 ticket

LANSING, January 29, 2008 – A lucky Alto man couldn’t believe his good fortune when all five of his Mega Millions numbers, without the Mega ball, came out on Jan. 11! He was holding a ticket worth $250,000! He also matched the Mega ball on another line, which bumped his prize up $2, to $250,002!

L. Miller, a long-time Lottery player, hid the ticket in a safe prior to cashing it in at Lottery Central in Lansing. He plans to use his easy pick winnings to put a new roof on his house.

Miller purchased the winning ticket at Alto Marathon, 11990 64th St., in Alto.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
