Lottery events season starts this weekend

LANSING, May 15, 2006 – The Michigan Lottery’s 2006 events season will kick off this weekend at the Downtown Hoedown in Detroit.

The Lottery’s booth, sponsored by Meijer, will feature the Michigan Lottery’s prize wheel where players will have an opportunity to spin and win exciting Lottery prizes!  To earn a spin on the wheel, just purchase $10 in tickets sold at any one of the festivals the Lottery is participating in.  Players can purchase both Instant and online tickets at the booth.

Hours for the Lottery booth are 1 – 8 p.m. Friday, May 19; 12 – 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20; and 1 – 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21.

The Downtown Hoedown, which was started in 1983, is now one of Country Music’s largest festivals of its kind in the world.  Last year, Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit attracted over 800,000 people during the three day event.  Artists this year at the Downtown Hoedown include: Sammy Kershaw, Josh Gracin, Terri Clark, Josh Turner, Clay Walker, Miranda Lambert, Tracy Byrd and many more!

The Lottery will also be at various other events during the 2006 season:

  • The Arab American Festival (June 16 – 18, Dearborn)
  • The Bay City Pig Gig (August 3 – 6, Bay City)
  • Upper Peninsula State Fair (August 15 – 20, Escanaba)
  • Michigan State Fair (August 23 – September 4, Detroit)
  • Arts, Beats & Eats (September 1 – 4, Pontiac)

Visit the Lottery locations at these festivals and enjoy playing Michigan Lottery games.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2005, the contribution was $667.6 million.
