Barbara J. Velich of Menominee Wins $35,0000 Top Prize in Lottery's "Cashword" Instant Game!

LANSING, October 7, 2002 – Barbara Velich of Menominee recently spelled her way to instant wealth with the Michigan Lottery’s "Cashword" instant game! Upon scratching off the ticket she revealed a $35,000 top prize.

The 43-year-old winner purchased the winning ticket at Admiral Petroleum Company #88, 1405 10th Street, in Menominee.

"I scratched off the ticket at home while relaxing in a chair," said Velich. "As I scratched it off, I realized that I had very few letters left, so I knew I had to be a winner of some kind.

I counted all the words and immediately announced to my husband that I won the top prize!"

The lucky winner, who works as a caregiver in Wisconsin, said she kept the winning ticket with her at all times to ensure its safety before turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Lansing.

Velich, who enjoys gardening and playing bingo in her free time, said she plans to use her winnings to pay bills.

"Cashword" is just one of many instant games available at more than 9,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
