LANSING, August 16, 2002 – A lucky St. Joseph woman was so excited to learn she had matched all five numbers in the August 7 Michigan Rolldown drawing that she collapsed into a chair! The lucky lady won an $15,399 jackpot! The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were: 2, 7, 9, 14 and 29.
The jackpot-winning "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Hardings of St. Joseph, 2844 Niles Ave., in St. Joseph.
The 77-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, discovered she held a jackpot-winning ticket when she looked up the winning numbers in the South Bend Tribune.
"After I learned that the numbers in the newspaper matched the numbers on my ticket, I called the store where I bought it and asked them to verify the winning Rolldown numbers," the winner said. "I am very happy and excited to have won the jackpot!"
Before collecting her prize at the Lottery’s regional office in Wyoming, the lucky lady kept the ticket with her at all times to ensure its safety. The winner, who enjoys attending "luncheons with the girls" in her free time, said she plans to use part of her winnings to make home improvements and share the rest with her family.
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held six days a week—Monday through Saturday—at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
