LANSING, May 16, 2002 – Beginner’s luck was with James Williams of Southfield, who has only played Michigan Lottery games for the past year, when he recently won half of the May 6 Michigan Rolldown jackpot! Williams was one of two lucky Lottery players who matched all five numbers drawn in the May 6 drawing to win a $9,001 prize! The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were: 5, 6, 12, 27 and 28.
The total pool for the May 6 Michigan Rolldown drawing was $18,002, so each jackpot winner received $9,001, before taxes. In total for the May 6 drawing, 20,761 winners shared $63,021 in prizes. In addition to the two jackpot winners, 66 winners matched four numbers to win a $111 prize; 2,125 winners matched three numbers to win a $9 prize; and 18,568 winners matched two numbers to win the $1 prize.
Williams purchased the winning "easy pick" Michigan Rolldown ticket at Busters West, 695 S. Maple Road, in Ann Arbor.
"I went to the store where I purchased the ticket to pick up a winning number report," Williams said. "I couldn’t believe the winning numbers matched the numbers on my ticket!"
The lucky 43-year-old said he has only played Michigan Lottery games for the past year, and added that he plans to use his winnings to pay bills and possibly purchase a car. Regardless of what he does with his winnings, there is no doubt Williams will enjoy his recent Lottery luck!
One half of the May 6 jackpot remains unclaimed. The second jackpot-winning ticket was purchased on May 6 at L&L Food Center #1346, 3800 W. Saginaw St., in Lansing.
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held six days a week—Monday through Saturday—at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
