LANSING, May 9, 2002 – Pooling your resources with other Lottery players really does pay off, as a Genesee County Lottery club recently learned! The "Cobblestone Social Club" Lottery Club of Grand Blanc purchased a ticket that matched the first five numbers drawn in the April 16 drawing to win a $150,000 Big Game! The winning numbers for that day’s drawing were 7, 10, 25, 26, 27 and the Big Money Ball number was 23.
The winning "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Lucky Star Food Market, 3917 W. Court St., in Flint.
The 10 members of the "Cobblestone Social Club" Lottery club, work together at the Cobblestone Restaurant in Grand Blanc, each received a $15,000 prize, before taxes:
Joel Anderson of Grand Blanc
Jodie Baker of Swartz Creek
Kay Bell of Grand Blanc
Paula Dinnan of Flint
Donald Goold of Grand Blanc
Jeffrey Goold of Grand Blanc
Gloria Headrick of Flint
April Jacobs of Burton
William Rhyne of Swartz Creek
Ella Mae Wells of Grand Blanc
"We checked the winning Big Game numbers in the newspaper," said Jeffrey Goold, club representative. "I started making phone calls right away when I realized we had won $150,000. Everyone went crazy! Since our club is comprised mostly of wait staff, a lot of the kids can really use the money."
Goold said that he kept the winning ticket locked in a safe before turning it in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing. He added that some members of the club have mentioned that they plan to use their winnings to pay bills and purchase vehicles.
"We have only been playing The Big Game as a club for two weeks," Goold said. "We just did it for giggles—but it was worth it!"
The Big Game is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 7,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Big Game drawing is Friday, May 10, with an estimated jackpot of $15 million.
