LANSING, May 1, 2000 — A Casco woman recently got a real bargain thanks to a buy-one-get- one-free coupon she received from the Michigan Lottery! The lucky lady was shocked beyond belief to learn the free ticket she got with her coupon matched all five numbers in the April 7 Michigan Rolldown drawing to win the $37,319 jackpot! The winning numbers in that day’s drawing were: 7, 22, 24, 29 and 30.
In total for the April 7 Michigan Rolldown drawing, there were 39,236 winners who shared $126,387 in prizes. In addition to the sole jackpot winner, there were 120 winners who matched four numbers for a prize of $127; 3,857 winners who matched three numbers for a prize of $10; and 35,258 winners who matched two numbers for the $1 prize.
The 51-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, said she was hanging on to some old Lottery tickets and decided she needed to check them for winning numbers one day.
"I had some Lottery tickets that I hadn’t checked for winning numbers yet," the winner said. "When I started checking the numbers and saw that I had all five numbers on one ticket I thought I must be crazy! I was convinced that something had to be wrong. I still can’t believe it!"
The lucky lady, who enjoys reading, shopping and working on crafts in her free time, purchased the winning Michigan Rolldown "easy pick" ticket at Speedway #2382, 67510 S. Main Street, in Richmond.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at the Lottery’s regional office in Sterling Heights, the homemaker said she kept it in her checkbook to ensure its safety. The winner said she plans to use her winnings to pay bills.
Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held Monday, February 28, 2000. Drawings are conducted six days a week — Monday through Saturday — at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at the more than 6,400 Lottery retailers statewide.
The feature that makes Michigan Rolldown unique among other Michigan Lottery games is the "roll down" feature, ensuring that all of the prize money will be paid out each and every night. In the event that no player matches all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot, that prize money "rolls down" to players who match four of five numbers, giving them an even bigger win!
To play Michigan Rolldown, players select five numbers from a field of 33, or use the "easy pick" feature in which the computer terminal randomly picks five of 33 numbers. Odds to match all five numbers are 1 in 237,336, with overall odds to win a cash prize of 1 in 6.
Cash prizes are awarded for matching five, four, three and even two numbers. These top three prizes are pari-mutuel and, therefore, may vary from drawing to drawing. Pari-mutuel prizes are based on the number of tickets sold and the number of winners matching five, four and three numbers. The prize for matching two numbers is always $1.
