LANSING, March 2, 2000 — Mack Thompson of Pontiac will soon be cruising the high seas with his family thanks to the Michigan Lottery! He matched the first five numbers in the February 11 Big Game drawing to win the $150,000 prize, and he plans to use part of his winnings to take a cruise with his family. That day’s winning numbers were: 05-27-36-37-42 and the Big Money Ball number was 20.
"I saw the winning numbers in the Oakland Press and didn’t tell anyone that I had matched the first five right away," Thompson said. "After I calmed down a little I told my family, and asked them to check the numbers to make sure I was reading them right. They checked the numbers three or four times because they couldn’t believe it either. I am so excited — I have never had this much money all at once!"
The 81-year-old winner said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 27 years, and his favorites are Michigan Lotto, the Daily 3 & 4 games and, of course, The Big Game! Thompson purchased the winning Big Game "easy pick" ticket at Fox Hills Medi Mart, 1539 S. Opdyke Road, in Bloomfield Hills.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the lucky man said he kept it with him at all times. In addition to taking a cruise with his family, Thompson said he also plans to pay bills with his winnings.
The Big Game is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets can be purchased at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Big Game drawing is Friday, March 3, with an expected jackpot of $18 million.
