LANSING, October 27, 1999 — Greg Wlasiuk of Archbold, Ohio knew he had won something on The Big Game ticket he purchased — he just wasn’t sure how much! Wlasiuk matched the first five numbers in the September 21 Big Game drawing to win the $150,000 prize. That day’s winning numbers were: 7, 16, 18, 35, 47 and the Big Money Ball number was 23.
“I was out shopping the day after the drawing and I saw the Lottery results on the front page of the newspaper,” Wlasiuk said. “I decided to check my ticket right then. I was reading them one number at a time. It was really exciting because I had the first number, then the second, third, fourth and fifth! I quickly went into the store to pick up a Big Game pamphlet to find out how much I had won. I assumed it was a $150 winner. What a surprise to find out I had actually won $150,000!”
When not golfing, fishing or participating in sports, the winner said he enjoys playing Michigan Lottery games. He added that he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 27 years, and his favorites are Michigan Lotto and The Big Game. Wlasiuk purchased the winning Big Game “easy pick” ticket at Morenci Deli, 216 W. Main Street, in Morenci.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing this week, Wlasiuk kept it in a safe deposit box. The 50-year-old winner said he doesn’t have any special plans for his winnings yet.
Wlasiuk believes anyone can win Lottery games and offered the following words of wisdom to other Lottery hopefuls: “You can’t win if you don’t play!”
The Big Game is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Big Game drawing is Friday, October 29, with an expected jackpot of $40 million.
