Southfield Man is Jamaica-Bound After Winning the Michigan Lottery's Cash 5 Game!

LANSING, August 23, 1999 — A Southfield man is enjoying the windfall he recently received after winning the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!

The 62-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers in the August 3 drawing — 4, 10, 21, 26 and 39. The winning Cash 5 ticket was purchased at Eight & Gallagher Market, 3136 E. 8 Mile, in Detroit.

"I lost power at my house shortly before the Cash 5 drawing for that night (August 3) was conducted, so I didn’t get to see it," the winner said. "I was watching the ‘Today’ show the next morning on WDIV-TV 4 and I saw the winning numbers on the bottom of the screen. I was completely surprised I had matched all five!"

The winner, a retiree and avid golfer, said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 27 years and he truly enjoys the variety of games the Lottery offers. He said he plans to use his winnings to build a house in Jamaica.

Prior to turning the winning Cash 5 ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the lucky man hid it in a safe place in his house.

Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching all five winning numbers; $350 for matching four of five numbers drawn; or $20 for matching three of five numbers drawn.

Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
