LANSING, March 1, 1999 – A Northville man really cashed in when he won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 52-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers – 7, 8, 13, 22, and 33 – in the February 19 drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at Tom’s Mini Mart, 30534 23 Mile Road, in New Baltimore.
"I watched the Cash 5 drawing on Channel 4 (WDIV) and I knew instantly that I had won something," the Northville man said. "I didn’t realize right away that I had matched all five numbers. Once I figured out I had all five I called three or four different stores to verify that I had really matched all of the numbers! I was completely surprised!"
The lucky winner said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 26 years, and he especially enjoys Cash 5, The Big Game and Michigan Lotto. He said he always randomly chooses his own numbers.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the retiree placed it in a drawer in his house for safe keeping. He said he doesn’t have any special plans for his winnings at this time — he is "still thinking about it."
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 top prize are one in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
