LANSING, January 27, 1999 – A Sterling Heights man saw his lucky numbers come in when he won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 54-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers – 1, 2, 5, 15 and 28 – in the January 19 drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at Kim’s Party Store, 3999 17 Mile Road, in Sterling Heights.
"I watched the Cash 5 drawing on WDIV Channel 4 but I didn’t have my ticket in front of me at the time," the winner said. "I knew right away that I had matched two numbers so I thought I had won $20. When I looked at my ticket and realized I had matched all five I was very surprised!"
The avid sports fan said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 26 years. He said he always chooses his own numbers by using a random number generator program on his personal computer.
Prior to collecting his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the Sterling Heights man put the winning ticket in a safe deposit box. He said he plans to use his winnings to pay off debts and make investments.
The lucky winner offered the following advice for other Lottery hopefuls: "Keep plugging away and one of these days it might happen to you!"
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 top prize are one in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
