Battle Creek Man Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize from the Michigan Lottery

What a Battle Creek man assumed was a $1,000 prize ended up being a $100,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.

Jack Rider, 64, matched four white balls and the Powerball – 03-15-20-23-46 PB:11 – in the May 13 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $100,000. He bought his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I have been playing Powerball and Mega Millions for years, and I usually buy my tickets online,” said Rider. “A few days after the drawing, I logged in to my account and saw a notification that a $100,000 prize was pending. My first thought was that it was a typo and I’d really won $1,000, because I thought there was no way I’d won $100,000.

“Once I verified that I really had won $100,000, I handed my phone to my wife to show her what we’d won. It still doesn’t feel real!”

Rider recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to complete some home projects and share with his family.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on April 19. One ticket bought in Ohio won the $252.6 million jackpot. The current jackpot stands at $725 million.

Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
