An Oakland County man had a sleepless night after checking his Lotto 47 ticket before bed and finding out he won a $1.25 million jackpot!

The lucky 73-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the six Lotto 47 numbers drawn – 02-12-20-30-31-42 – in the Sept. 9 drawing to win a $1.25 million jackpot. He bought the winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.

“I regularly play Lotto 47, and one night while I was buying my tickets online, my wife said to me: ‘Are you ever going to win big?’” said the player. “A few nights later, I logged into my account to check my ticket before going to bed, and to my surprise, a pop-up came up saying I won $1.25 million.

“I showed my wife and we both thought it was a scam, so I logged out of my account and then logged back in to see if the notification would still be there. When I logged in and got the notification again, we checked the winning numbers and knew it was real. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night!

“The next day, we surprised our kids with the news by planning a family FaceTime. Once all the kids were on the call, I sent them the screenshot of the prize notification and told them to look at my text. It was fun to watch each of their reactions!”

The lucky player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of about $866,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. He plans to save his winnings.

Each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Lotto 47 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in the nightly Double Play drawing. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
