A Wayne County man’s “mouth dropped to the ground” when he found out he won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Gold Multiplier instant game.
The lucky 53-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at the Tel-Wick Amoco Service Center, located at 9225 Telegraph Road in Taylor.
“I scratched the ticket and saw I matched a number, but I didn’t scratch the winning amount right away,” said the player. “I finished scratching the rest of the ticket and saw I didn’t get any other matches, so I scratched the winning amount. When I saw a prize of $1 million, my mouth dropped to the ground! I called my son and my fiancé right away to tell them the news.
“Winning is life-changing and one of the best things to ever happen to me! I have been nervous for days and it still doesn’t seem real.”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, he plans to help his family.
Players have won more than $21 million playing Gold Multiplier which launched in March. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $30 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 23 $10,000 prizes, and 39 $2,000 prizes.
In 2023, Lottery players won nearly $1.8 billion playing instant games.
Lottery instant games may be purchased at retailers across the state.
