Members of a Wayne County lottery club have new homes and shiny cars on their minds after winning a $1 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
The two-person Dave and Pam lottery club matched the five white balls in the Aug. 26 drawing to win the big prize: 20-22-26-28-63. They bought their winning ticket at Wild Bill’s Tobacco, located at 27424 6 Mile Road in Livonia.
“We have been friends for more than 30 years and have been playing the Lottery together for the last several years,” said the club’s representative. “I got a call from my friend, and he told me he had some big news for me and that I needed to sit down.
“After confirming several times that I was seated, he told me we had won $1 million on our Powerball ticket. I couldn’t help but start yelling and cheering! He had to bring the ticket over to my house to prove that he wasn’t playing a joke on me.”
The club recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. With their winnings, they each plan to purchase a new house and a new car.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on July 19. One ticket bought in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot. The current jackpot stands at $1.04 billion.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.
The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
