- A Gladwin County woman’s routine stop after work to buy a Lottery ticket led her to winning $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Black & Gold instant game.
The lucky 57-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at Border’s Corner Store, located at 7024 East Pickard Road in Mount Pleasant.
“I like playing the instant games and I always stop to buy one on my way home from work,” said the player. “I stopped at the store after work as usual one night and decided to try the Black & Gold game. I started scratching the ticket when I got home and when I saw I had won $1 million, I was in shock!
“I usually scratch my tickets as soon as I get in my car, so I’m glad I waited until I got home this time because I don’t think I would have been able to drive since I was so shaky and excited!”
The player visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than 30 annuity payments for the full amount. With her winnings, she plans to purchase a home and share with her family.
Players have won more than $9 million playing Black & Gold which launched in December. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $44 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes and 134 $2,000 prizes.
In 2021, Lottery players won more than $1.8 billion playing instant games.
