An Oakland County man couldn’t help but shout when he found out he won a $557,134 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky 54-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers in the Nov. 30 drawing to win the big prize: 14-28-30-35-39. He bought his winning ticket at the Marathon gas station, located at 6601 Cooley Lake Road in Waterford.

“I typically play Fantasy 5 when the jackpot starts getting big,” said the player. “When I saw the jackpot was over $500,000, I decided to purchase a few tickets. I was checking the tickets at the store a few days later, and one came up with a message to file a claim, so I assumed the scanner malfunctioned and asked the clerk to give me a printout of the winning numbers.

“When I looked the winning numbers over and saw I’d all matched five, I tried to remain calm because I didn’t want to cause a scene in the store. Once I got in my car, I started shouting with excitement! It was such a great feeling.”

The player visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim the big prize. With his winnings, he plans to pay bills and then save the remainder.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
