A Kent County man was in shock after receiving a voicemail from the Michigan Lottery informing him he won a $97,885 Monthly Jackpot progressive prize.
The lucky 50-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, won $97,885 after he was selected in a random drawing that took place Nov. 9. He earned entries into the giveaway by playing the Monthly Jackpot game online at MichiganLottery.com.
“I knew that by playing the Monthly Jackpot game I was also earning entries into a second chance giveaway, but I never thought I would actually win,” said the player. “I was at work one day and saw I had a voicemail from a Lansing phone number. When I listened to the voicemail and learned I’d won a $97,885 prize I was in shock!
“It seemed too good to be true, so I decided to see if I had gotten any email notifications about this prize. After looking through my email, I realized I had accidentally deleted the email from the Lottery informing me of the prize. My coworker asked if something was wrong, and all I could respond was: ‘I think I just won a lot of money!’ It has been such a crazy and fun experience.”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. With his winnings, he plans to purchase a car and pay bills.
Monthly Jackpot is an online instant game that includes a second chance progressive jackpot drawing. Part of every purchase of the Monthly Jackpot game funds a progressive jackpot prize which is awarded in a second chance drawing each month. Players earn one entry for every $0.50 wagered playing the Monthly Jackpot game. After the entry period has closed, a random drawing takes place with one jackpot winner being selected from all entries for that month.
Seven Monthly Jackpot Progressive prizes have been awarded since the game began in April:
- April 2022 – $338,256 progressive jackpot prize
- May 2022 – $178,116 progressive jackpot prize
- June 2022 – $139,221 progressive jackpot prize
- July 2022 – $121,668 progressive jackpot prize
- August 2022 – $104,730 progressive jackpot prize

- October 2022 – $97,885 progressive jackpot prize
Entries are only valid for the entry period in which they were earned. Each month, a new drawing period begins, and the progressive jackpot is reset to $5,000. The next drawing will take place Dec. 14.
