What a Wayne County woman assumed was a scam call, ended up being a call from the Michigan Lottery informing her she’d won a $100,000 prize playing the $300,000,000 Diamond Riches Second Chance game.
The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, won $100,000 after she was selected in a random drawing that took place on Oct. 19. She earned entries into the giveaway by scanning non-winning $300,000,000 Diamond Riches tickets on the Michigan Lottery app.
“I got a call one afternoon and the caller ID showed it was from the state of Michigan which I thought was strange,” said the 62-year-old player. “I assumed it was a scam call and I almost didn’t answer, but then decided to at the last minute. When the woman said she was with the Michigan Lottery calling to inform me of my $100,000 prize, I didn’t believe it.
“I checked my email while I was on the phone with the Lottery employee and saw they’d sent me an email earlier that day informing me of my prize, and that’s when I knew it was real. I called my daughter right away to tell her the good news!”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. With her winnings, she plans to start a college fund for her granddaughter, pay bills, donate, and then save the remainder.
“Winning is great and I now know that it’s definitely worth it to scan losing ticket,” said the player.
The tenth and final $300,000,000 Diamond Riches second chance drawing took place on Nov. 16. Each drawing awarded:
- One winner of $100,000
- Five winners of $10,000
- Twenty winners of $1,000
