A Livonia woman woke her husband up to share some good news and a toast after winning $25,000 a year for life playing the Michigan Lottery’s Lucky For Life game.
Laurie Nixon, 66, matched the five white balls drawn Oct. 11 – 04-17-20-22-40 – to win $25,000 a year for life. She bought her winning ticket at Regal Liquor II, located at 8240 North Merriman Road in Westland. Eleven Michigan players have won lifetime prizes playing Lucky For Life this year.
“I like playing Lucky For Life because you can win a good amount even if you only match a couple numbers,” said Nixon. “I checked my ticket after the drawing and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I decided to wake my husband up to tell him what I’d won. At first, he didn’t believe me at all. It took a few minutes of convincing and then we celebrated by making a toast!”
Nixon visited Lottery headquarters to claim her big prize. She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump sum payment of $390,000, rather than annuity payments of $25,000 for 20 years or life, whichever is greater.
With her winnings, Nixon plans to invest in her retirement account.
“Winning this sure has made retirement a lot easier for us,” Nixon said.
For just $2 per play, Lucky For Life gives Lottery players a chance to win prizes ranging from $3 to a lifetime of cash. To win the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life, players must match all five winning numbers ranging from 1 to 48, plus one Lucky Ball ranging from 1 to 18. Players who match all five winning numbers, but not the Lucky Ball, will win $25,000 a year for life. Drawings take place at 10:38 p.m. seven days-a-week. Tickets may be purchased at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com.
