Beginning Aug. 23, Powerball is increasing the number of drawings from two to three nights-a-week with the addition of Monday drawings. Drawings will now be held Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Drawings will continue to take place at 10:59 p.m.
The addition of Monday drawings will allow bigger, faster-growing jackpots, in addition to increasing the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded on an annual basis. It will not affect the prize structure, odds, or the way the game is played.
Tickets for Powerball drawings may be purchased until 9:45 p.m. the night of each drawing.
Also beginning Aug. 23, Double Play drawings will occur after each Powerball drawing. The Double Play drawing is a second set of numbers drawn from one to 69 and one Powerball number from one to 26.
The top Double Play prize is $10 million for matching five out of five numbers plus the Powerball in the Double Play drawing. Players may win prizes in the regular nightly drawing, the Double Play drawing, or both.
The Double Play add-on game gives players a second chance to win with each drawing for $1 more per play per draw. Powerplay does not apply to Double Play prizes.
Each Powerball play is only $2. Players select five numbers from one to 69 and one Powerball number from one to 26 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $20 million and grows until someone wins it. For an additional $1 per play, per draw, players may add the “Powerplay” option which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million. For an additional $1 per play, per draw Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing. Powerball plays may be purchased at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com.
