Playing the same set of numbers for years finally paid off for a Wayne County woman who won a $150,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Vera Giglio, of Grosse Pointe Shores, matched the four white balls and the Powerball – 06-14-38-39-65 PB: 06 – in the March 27 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Powerplay, the prize was multiplied to $150,000. She bought her winning ticket at Moonlite Party Store, located at 33452 Harper Avenue in Clinton Township.
“I have been playing the same set of numbers every week for years,” said the 87-year-old Giglio. “I checked the winning numbers in the newspaper the following day and recognized them right away. It was very exciting!”
Giglio visited Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. With her winnings she plans to pay bills.
Powerball plays may be purchased for $2 each at Lottery retailers across the state and online at MichiganLottery.com. A “Power Play” option that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million may be added to any Powerball play for only $1.
The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday and may be watched live online at: http://www.powerball.com. Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
